ghosts are like the stars at noonday they are there all the time and it is we who cannot see them but if we put all of our senses to work we can detect them who are the real people?

we just want you to stay the summer let your worries go just two months to help our mother some wrinkles to unfold let your wife make our decision she just wants a home work on writing a new beginning this house takes care of its own the first letting of blood restorerth the grandeur years of history pressed into an all-encompassing space the long-dead plants reborn the stately pool transformed awake almost instantaneously the grey begins to show in the hair of a woman whose years on this earth are barely twenty-eight the weakened flesh is worn the old siding is shorn replaced soon enough it seems so normal as if this was always theirs the scent of roses and lemon oil wafts as she ascends the stairs his sleep becomes troubled unable to write death fills his nightmares with malignant dread his sanity seems at stake is it the estate or his head? the wife runs out of surfaces to dust the house is ablaze with light the cancer is eating away at them without the slightest outward sign but then their child shatters a bowl the enraged spectre demands a toll from an old woman’s bed of death nothing left to believe the house won’t let them leave their souls they do not need it is time her collection centuries in progress souls trapped in her store damned by vanity unnaturally deathless siren songs forewarned their benefactor sleeps with attendant patience behind the huge ornate door as predicted they’ll never see her until they are fully absorbed the sacrifice of one family sustains another wholly unanswerable to the most cursory ravage of time how can there be a god who would let this happen? perhaps one day an attendant willful child or an accident of lightning will issue forth and set the estate aflame but until that day arrives the eternal mother abides and watches for your arrival next

i heard about this dude who faced the garrison of gender so far from home he did it all alone he lost himself in a natural state and all despite the darkness he knew the way and came into his own he wandered through the badlands and played himself a good hand he found a role he could finally control a single spark of misplaced trust lit his life on fire which left him cold and the world swallowed him whole but all we know is all too much when so little is said our hearts enjoin the thousand as we sigh and hang our heads all we feel is all too much as we all toss back our drinks waiting for the answers to come without needing to think i heard about this girl who wanted to rise from the mattress but the day was long and everything was wrong she was never her emotion but was always her addiction her strength had gone and all the more withdrawn she’d lived her days and nights as well as anyone could hope for she watched the world sniff and pass her by the sunlight peeking through the blinds cycled through her works she believed in the lie and still we all deny the fact that all we know is all too much when so little is said our hearts enjoin the thousand as we fly into our beds all we feel is all too much as we stay within our cliques any causes should suffice but we don’t get to pick take a side of the great divide spread it wide and tell it to the sky murder isn’t murder when god gets involved murder isn’t murder when money gets involved murder isn’t murder when lawyers get involved let the casualties pile ever up most remain unsolved anyone can look askance and claim to know the answers the limits though run deeper than we know maybe it just boils down to one survival at a time the status quo and the warmth of lying low but still then all we know is all too much when so little is said our hearts enjoin the thousand as we all aid and abet all we feel is all too much as we cry into the sink four steps forward two steps back and closer to the brink and all we know is all too much when so little is said our hearts enjoin the thousand as we sigh and hang our heads all we feel is all too much as we all toss back our drinks waiting for the answers to come without needing to think

if i had lived to be a hundred years i would’ve lived a thousand lives smear my face across the tall marquee and open up their eyes if i had lived to be a hundred years imagine their surprise the time would come to put the plans in action and laugh as the world dies if i had lived to be a hundred months i would’ve slashed your fucking throats smear the blood against the bedroom walls and grin wide as you choked if i had lived to be a hundred months you would’ve listened when i spoke the time would come to put the plans in action and erase what i wrote if i had lived to be a hundred weeks i would’ve started up a farm build strong fences around all the pigs and protect them all from harm if i had lived to be a hundred weeks i would’ve sounded the alarm the time would come to put the plans in action but things went way too far if i had lived to be a hundred days i would’ve written a million books any way to kill the bad luck demons who gripped me with their hooks if i had lived to be a hundred days i would retrieve what i forsook the time would come to put the plans in actiona and have a second look if i had lived to be a hundred hours i would’ve loved the fucking pain stab deep wounds with the sharpest knives and suck the spreading stains if i had lived to be a hundred hours i would remember my own name the time would come to put the plans in action but it would be the same if i had lived to be a hundred minutes i would’ve spoken my last words give clear signs for all the deafened ears reality deferred if i had lived to be a hundred minutes i would’ve welcomed the absurd the time would come to put the plans in action and take my life unheard if i had lived to be a hundred

the man with the plexiglass eyes he abides as the hand in hand couples walk by behold the crusader with the immaculate plan the truth lurks in what he decides he pays for his crimes with a dime pierced by a chain and he even tried jesus for a while both love and death are married to the far ends of his hands the reaper lives within his smile never leave the house bathe it all in black shoot me in the face tie me to the rack some people say i worry about the wrong sorts of things but this happens when i let people in the man with the hate on his mind is the kind who rapes himself time after time he lines up his weapons on the table in his kitchen his idleness will soon unwind dig my own grave mark it with a briar stab me in the chest blanket me in fire some people say i worry about the wrong sorts of things but try living in this skin voiceless he calls me armless he grabs me no leverage he pins me try to fucking move faceless he thralls me toothless he bites me the nausea is pressing try to fucking breathe noiseless i’m deafened harmless i’m threatened blameless i’m guilty of living in this world bladeless he stabs me senseless he tastes me sightless he watches my eyes meet his and we both decide to give right in the man with the shit in his life he is ripe with the triumph of the will to survive behold the savior with the conscience of a fence my mirror is the blade of his knife he pays for his crimes with a dime pierced by a chain and he even tried satan for a while my awareness of the monster will not shield me from his gaze perhaps I should just reconcile welcome the isolation pray that it lasts consume every inch of me have a fucking blast some people say i worry about the wrong sorts of things but who knows what the future will bring

it shouldn’t take so long to get this wrong but when i’m fucked up i still hear the sounds of your feet and all the regret just plunges me into the sea i’m going to hell and i won’t see that much of you there if things were different i’d ask you to answer my prayer it’s not fair it shouldn’t take so long to get this wrong but when i’m fucked up i still hear the sound of your voice i’ve no excuses but you hadn’t left me a choice i’m going to hell and want to remember your face your innocence they all say is what got you erased and so it begins the world is closing in the agency seizes upon its most tenuous link and so it begins the world is closing in careers built on lies and friendly disguise and so it begins the world is closing in getting used by both sides no one way to think and so it begins the world is closing in no matter how hard she tries this sudden demise it shouldn’t take so long to get this wrong but when i’m fucked up i still feel my hands at your throat i want to burn down all the places you wanted to go i’m going to hell and just want to take it all back different directions we traveled way too fast die is cast [Adriana: HA HA]

we are the ones who went on our way we left our earthly vessels and took to the sky you shouldn’t feel sad for us we weren’t afraid although there may be some of you may want to know why we took our chances on just the right day we all went together at just the right time we rested our bodies and just let the tape play there really was no thought about dying we went to catch the star remember who we are we are the one who went on our way we shook off our fetters and made for the light the preparations were a small price to pay we left just enough to be identified we took our chances on just the right day we all went together at just the right time there really wasn’t any reason for us to stay we drank from the thermos and said our goodbyes we went to catch the star the distance wasn’t far we went to catch the star remember who we are when you’re living in a world that’s cold and lonely it’s really so easy to let your guard down some look for answers in the houses of the holy others are content to get lost in the crowd when you’re looking for some sort of belonging it’s really so easy to be deceived some don’t concern themselves with when the day is dawning others down here simply want to believe we are the ones who went on our way we plowed through the ether to reach the divine the world was coming to the end of its state we saw what was coming so we left it behind we took our chances on just the right day we all went together at just the right time you all should have come with us but now it’s too late so just sit back and watch the heavens unwind we went to catch the star it really wasn’t that hard we went to catch the star remember who we are we are the star children we’re sorry to leave you behind we are the star children and this is our final goodbye

Ghosts 03:32

about

Unhinged, haunted, often atonal solo-acoustic murder ballads and ambient soundscapes influenced by Slint "Spiderland" and Swans "My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky."

Spoorloos is named after the 1988 Dutch-French suspense-horror film directed by George Sluizer. The word in Dutch means "Traceless" or "Without a Trace." These songs are also partly based on the ghost stories of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and Oliver Onions. Other songs are concerned with amateur necromancy, accidental portals, UFO suicide cults, and foniasophobia (fear of serial killers).

"The Hill" is intended to be listened to as a narrative sequence of songs/stories. A few tracks of varying length crossfade into each other, so it is best to buy the whole album rather than individual tracks.

Thuringwethil is a librarian, writer of dark fantasy/horror fiction, compulsive indexer, and co-founder of the Witching Metal band Hekseri < hekseri.net >.
